Book of Love

On the week days, when my husband is at work, I find various ways to keep myself pleasantly entertained. I love reading but I seem to to be doing less and less of it because I hate the silence when I am alone, I need some noise so I end up watching interviews and concerts of various kinds on the internet and watch a lot of movies.
I find movies very interesting, I like watching all kinds from serious artsy kinds to horror and gore. I watch the good movies as well as the bad ones. I enjoy the expression of this particular medium, very different from novels but equally enjoyable. Unlike books movies attract a larger crowd and reaches out to all sections of the society. They bring to the mass an idea, any idea and can be highly influential.
Now this post has nothing to do with a lesson in media studies and society rather it's just about a song I fell in love with called Book of Love. It's probably a very old song but I heard the Peter Gabriel version of it on the soundtrack of the movie Shall we Dance.

I found the movie to be very heartwarming and funny. I also like Beverly Clark's explanation of why two people marry : "We need a witness to our lives. There's a billion people on the planet... I mean, what does any one's life really mean? But in a marriage, you're promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things... all of it, all of the time, every day. You're saying 'Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go un-witnessed because I will be your witness."
You agree or you disagree it's certainly food for thought!
And yes, you are right, I am a romantic.

So here are the lyrics of the song:

The book of love is long and boring
No one can lift the damn thing
It's full of charts and facts and figures and instructions for dancing
But I
I love it when you read to me
And you
You can read me anything
The book of love has music in it
In fact that's where music comes from
Some of it is just transcendental
Some of it is just really dumb
But I
I love it when you sing to me
And you
You can sing me anything
The book of love is long and boring
And written very long ago
It's full of flowers and heart-shaped boxes
And things we're all too young to know
But I
I love it when you give me things
And you
You ought to give me wedding rings
And I
I love it when you give me things
And you
You ought to give me wedding rings
And I
I love it when you give me things
And you
You ought to give me wedding rings
You ought to give me wedding rings
